You might already have these herbs growing in your yard 🌿

Hi Reader,

I am deep in spring gardening right now… but honestly, one of my favorite parts of this season hasn’t been planting at all.

It’s been noticing what’s already growing.

While I’ve been prepping my garden beds, I’ve been spotting all these wild herbs popping up—things I used to think were just weeds—and realizing how useful they actually are. And the best part? I didn’t plant a single one of them.

So in today’s podcast episode, we’re talking about spring foraging for beginners… right in your own backyard.

Because I used to think foraging meant hiking out into the woods (which, let’s be honest, isn’t always realistic). But the truth is, if you have a yard—or even just access to a patch of grass—you probably already have a handful of really useful plants growing nearby.

In this episode, I walk through:

  • The difference between henbit, dead nettle, and stinging nettle (and which one I actually use)
  • When to harvest dandelion leaves vs. roots (and why timing matters)
  • Wild violets (and a really fun color-changing lemonade idea)
  • Beginner-friendly plants like chickweed, garlic mustard, and plantain
  • And one of my favorites: wild chives—aka free herbs growing in your lawn

But if you are already overwhelmed this season, just remember:

You don’t need to harvest everything.
You don’t need to learn it all at once.
You can just start with one plant.

That’s really the whole point of this episode—helping you see what’s already there and feel confident using it.

If you’ve ever been curious about foraging but felt like it was overwhelming or out of reach, this is a really good place to start.
